Wave Rock @ Hyden on 1st June 2008
so the next day, we decided to go on a road trip! to the east of Perth. since it was a long weekend, everyone will be mostly going south west since it was the area where the main attractions like Margaret River and Bunbury are. so he decided to go east.
it was going to be a long journey of about 5 hours drive. so we packed lunch to eat on the way.
passed by this dog cemetery on the way. which was kind of interesting because I never saw one before. and neither did he. some of the words on the memorials were really touching.finally reached Wave Rock at about 1pm after setting off at around 8 plus am. so we proceeded to the first attraction of Hyden.
then, drove down to Lake Magic, which was supposedly another attraction.
then, we proceeded to the Mulka's cave, famous for the aboriginal art. there was only a dark passageway, and we really couldnt see anything, even with his torch light, so we did not go in. so only saw the artwork on the portion of the cave nearer to the entrance.
after that, we went on a hiking trail along the Humps. Its actually a walking trail up the hill and the portions of the cave. the direction to go was indicated by small white posts stuck on the cave rock or white signboards. so you really had to look out for them.
then we drove past the town of Hyden to Lake Grace.
saw these living sculptures along the way. they were made up of junk metal and made up the history of Hyden's population. which was kinda cool. it reminds me of Robots, the movie, though I did not watch.on the way to Lake Grace, it was quite a suspenseful journey because we were running really low on petrol, and just when we were approaching it, the fuel signal came on. it was really scary. and luckily the petrol kiosk at Lake Grace was still open, unlike the one at Port Campbell on Great Ocean Road. so we did not need to be stranded in that small town. really close shave.
and went to all that trouble to see a lake that looked normal. and when we reached, it was dark. so cant see anything. boo.
it was really a suspenseful day. since we also got a little lost on the way to Wave Rock. and we nearly couldnt spot the sign back to Perth and had to ask our way around coz his GPS couldnt detect the road. weird. on the way back, there were parts of the road where it was so damn misty that we kept wondering what it was. it was like driving through clouds. you really cant see what was in front of you.
the roads were really so dark until I could see the stars shining at me. you could see the mist around them. I think you can spot galaxies there man. too bad I cant recognise constellations. but the stars were really so pretty. the whole sky was full of them. so I think I do not need to go Kallamunda already.
memorable day.
