last week of pharmacy attachment in Denver

finished my last day of work in Denver, Colorado on Friday.

it was an interesting week.

went to Kaisers Permanente on Monday. its this enclosed system, under the insurance plan, that allows people to see doctors, get medication, blood tests, consultations, etc under the same facility. had like tours in different departments of the system, like the anti-coagulation clinic, clinical care, outpatient pharmacy, etc. also went to take a look at their huge automated refilling machine that refills prescriptions for patients and sends it to the pharmacies or their homes. they fill like up to 8000 a day. amazing

went to the Medical Critical care unit at the University Hospital on Tues. they were mostly dealing with infections and sepsis, and they threw up alot of things about antibiotics, like all the different effects of the different classes. omg. i think i cant rbr all of those, got to work hard at it.

went to the inpatient oncology unit on wed and outpatient oncology unit on thurs at the university hospital. it was something different because it was about oncology that we never really touched before, and we have to deal with chemotherapy drugs. the oncology patient rooms are like hotels, seriously. it has a couch and everything. probably makes the patients feel better. then went to a Phase 1 research clinic, where the pharmacist there introduced the protoccols to us. cool.

she was super passionate about her job, because we were saying isnt it sad to see patients die all the time? she was saying, whats important is that we were there to help them through the process and made the process easier for them. it was really encouraging.

went to cardiology unit on fri and then to a geriatrics clinic at the old hospital campus. kinda slack on the last day because we just sat there listening to them discussing about the different cardiac cases, and going a bit blur because we are not familiar with the cardiac abbreviations, den at the geriatrics clinic, we were chatting with this other pharmacy intern from Colorado University.

and so tt ended my week in Denver.

stayed at another pharmacy girl, Bridget's house on Friday night, because the professor was going away to Florida with his wife for a conference. went to 2 bars because Bridget was accompanying her boyfriend to this gathering of his ex-colleagues. went to Rio Grande Bar, where I heard their margueritas are super strong but nice, and they have a limit of 2 apparently. haha. then went to Sing Sing bar, where they have nice music played on piano, drums and guitar like live band. so when ppl sabo others to go up if its their bdae or sth, den the singers will make up songs as they sing along. cool right.. have to pay a token for each song dedication though.

then went to 16th Street mall in downtown Denver on sat, before the night flight to Philadelphia. its cool. its like orchard road, just that its shops along the stretch of road, instead of high rise buildings and there's this free shuttle that runs up and down the stretch of road for people to take so that they can shop easily. nice!

took a night flight at 11.55pm to Philadelphia, and because of the time difference of 2 hrs btw Denver and the East Coast, I landed at 5.30am, but effectively, I only took a flight of 3.5 hours so in the end never sleep much.

at Shamantha's apartment now @ Philadelphia. She's here on NOC, and Christine came here to meet her.

will be taking a 2 hour bus ride to New York later. then flying to San Francisco by myself on Thursday morning while Chris goes to Philadelphia to tour around. then flying to Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon because kinda scared it will be too rushed if I fly into LA in the morning. and then flying back to Singapore on Sunday afternoon.

will be reaching on Monday night at 12.55am. haha.

looking forward to seeing everybody!
