last day in new york
just reached San Francisco today.
took a flight to philadelphia, then rushed all the way to catch my connecting flight to san francisco because the first flight was delayed by one hour. was running most of the time. luckily my baggage was able to be transferred on time too, i don't want another baggage delay.
staying at this hostel, Mission Hostel, in the middle of Mission Street. its nice because it has free internet access, free towel, free breakfast and its quite near the BART subway station. however, its located beside a club that plays loud music till 1.45am. haha. hope i can fall aslp later.
spent the last day in New York quite fruitfully.
went to SoHo again coz Christine wanted to buy the denim skirt that she tried previously. in the end, spent some time lingering around there, and i got a top for 2 usd dollars. good deal right. haha.
then went to Battery Park and Statue of Liberty island. went to take a look at the free ferry to Staten island, but it was kind of foggy, so we won't be able to see the Statue of Liberty clearly. so decided to spend the money to go take the ferry to the island itself. even for such a short ride, i think i could feel the seasickness coming upon me. cmi.
then went to Ellis island, which was the immigration island for US. Christine did not go because she wanted to rush back to go catch the bus for Philadelphia. it was quite cool, as it showed some 3D charts of statistics and things like blinking dots on a globe showing immigration to the US. they even have machines for u to check if your ancestors' names were inside the records. and they brought us through the different stations that the immigrants had to go through. really tedious man.
went to Central Park at 5th ave to meet Christine who wanted to go take a look at these 2 areas before going back to Philly. 5th ave was cool, and supposedly its the heart of New York. full of high class shops like Prada and there were many horse carriages. nice! Central Park was nice, though I did not venture far into it, because Christine decided to stay an extra night in New York. managed to capture the view of 5th ave from some high rocks.
had pizza and New York cheesecake for dinner! actually the cheesecake tasted the same. i think. haha. and saw the news on the midtown Manhatten steam pipe explosion. we were actually quite near the scene when it happened. about 3 blocks away. we were on 5th ave, the explosion was on 3rd ave. but did not feel the explosion.
then went to Times Square again because the subway leading to our place was suspended because of the explosion, so had to spend some time outside first. Times Square was still very happening even though it was quite late. managed to get some souvenirs from the M&M store there which is good, coz i lost the ones I bought from the ones in Las Vegas.
coz of the stupid manhatten explosion, the shuttle i booked couldnt pick me up, and taking a cab to the airport could easily cost me more than 100 usd, i had to change flights to a later flight to San Francisco. hopefully i can claim back travel insurance for that.
shall update about San Francisco tmr!
