4th day in Los Angeles
hello!
first blog entry from the US!
currently staying in Orbit Hostel and Hotel in US. well, chose this place because it was relatively cheap and had good reviews. well, not bad. its located in West Hollywood on this shopping strip, which we havent even gone shopping on yet. its quite comfy, at least it has a relatively clean washroom and beds that are not hard. it even has a bathtub! haha. but no meals provided, except free tea and coffee everyday.
1st time staying in a hostel, and got a mixed dorm, but think the fears were gone coz the people staying here are so nice. there's always a regular change of people because people move in and out. its like in this 4 days, we have known 2 girls from Australia, 2 guys from uk (but dunno their names coz nv talk), 1 girl from russia, and another 2 guys from england. how cool is tt.
okie. have been surviving on bread from supermarket, and burgers like the spicy chicken burger from Carls Junior today at only 99cents usd. its damn nice! and cheap. haha. we had pizza on e 1st day and had some kfc-similar chicken tenders at universal studios. the food here is really expensive.
the weather is really cold, like sunny and cool in the day (around 23 degrees) to suddenly dipping below 20 degrees at night, like tonight, the temperature was 15 degrees. luckily i heeded my dad's advice to take my mother's windbreaker here, with fur inside to keep me warm. christine even wears a few layers to keep herself warm.
have been travelling around by Metro bus and rail. its 3 usd for a day pass, which is quite worh it because we take around 3-4 rides a day.
1st day of Los Angeles:
went to Sunset Strip, which is supposedly a world famous place, but kinda disappointing because there was nothing much. it is actually famous for their pubs and clubs, we realised in the end, and apparently many stars patronised those places.
2nd day of Los Angeles:
went to Universal Studios! i am glad we are going to have it in the IR in Singapore. its quite cool, with rides related to their movies of course, for instance the Shrek 4D-ride, Jurassic Parks water flume ride (84 foot high! ) and Revenge with the Mummy roller coaster ride. took photos with characters like Marilyn Monroe, Shrek, Donkey. they also had this studio tour which brought us to their sets. Guess whaT! We visited Wisteria Lane, the street they used to film Desperate Housewives. even showed other sets like the War of the Worlds set, the Mummy set, King Kong set etc. Went for shows like Water world, special effects and the animal stars of Universal Studios.
then went to walk around Hollywood after that. they have this walk of fame along Hollywood Boulevard, with names of stars like cartoon characters, singers, actors and screenwriters. they also have this hand and foot prints panel outside one of the theatre which is going to show the premiere of Ocean 13 this Tuesday! too bad I won't b around already. there's the El Capitan Theatre, that usually premieres disney movies and kodak theatre, which is the venue for Academy awards each year!
3rd day of Los Angeles:
went to Disneyland. its as nice as the Paris Disneyland which i went to last time during primary school, but apparently according to Christine, that was small and this one in LA is counted one of the biggest! cool.
there are many different lands, like adventureland, mickey's toonland, fantasyland, frontier land etc. it was super crowded and so, we did not manage to take many rides. only took certain rides like Pirates of the Carribean boat ride, which they enacted scenes from there along the ride; SplashMountain, a 50 foot water ride; Indiana Jones ride, which was on a jeep-like looking vehicle; a car ride featured from the movie Cars etc.
Took pictures with cartoon characters, like Mickey and Goofy. yeah. okie i noe, behaving like kids. but being childish at times is really good. it feels good at least. not forgetting the Parade of dreams, where cartoon characters from Disney take part in this parade, like Chingay and rag, for example Beauty and the Beast set, Lion King, Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland, etc.
not forgetting the beautiful fireworks at night! it made my money worthwhile coz the theme park admission was really expensive. like 63 usd. it followed a theme, with Tinkerbell narrating it. too bad my camera went out of batt, so couldnt take a video, except with my phone, so the images werent really good. besides that, the lighting in Disneyland at night looks magical.
reached back hostel late at night around 1am because the journey from Hollywood to Disneyland is 3 hours. so after the fireworks, we left the place around 10 plus and caught the 24 hour bus back to our hostel.
4th day in Los Angeles:
took a good sleep and woke up late for once, den settled our bookings for transportation and hotels in Las Vegas before going to the LA fashion district to shop. its super cheap. bought this pair of covered shoes for 5 usd and christine bought boots at 5 usd too. the tops are also around this price.
will be going to the beach in LA tomorrow! =) then Las Vegas from 4th to 7th June.
