1st week of work

1st wk of work is over.

managed to start doing some consultation work on the 2nd day, where other den pricking ppl's fingers to test their INR, we had the chance to try to decide if we should change the dose, and verify with the preceptor.

in the middle of the week, went to the step-up clinics, where people came to us to consult about their medication list or any other questions they have. at least i recognize some medication there and managed to answer a few questions, but because the brand names were different, i am totally lost at times. luckily there was this other Pharm D student from Ohio, oso doing his rotation with me. ya there are only the 2 of us, no preceptor around, so we are on our own. he managed to answer most of the questions. got a question on identifying a tablet that the patient did not know what drug it was. and we managed to get it right. apparently they have this colour coding book and their tablets are colour coded. sweet.

went to the family clinic too where we followed medical residents around when they r looking at patients, and learn from them. got asked some questions from the medical residents also, which stumped me at times. but its amazing because of the trust they put on us, even though we r only pharmacy students.

there was this patient who was pregnant with her 2nd child and she's like younger than me. omg. the resident was telling me that morning, there was this patient who was pregnant and was only 13 yrs old. there was this guy tt weighed like 200 pounds and had edema for the whole stomach and legs. it muz be really hard on him.

sat in on the evaluation of the pain clinic that they had one day, where they had 3 patients who were suffering from chronic pain, and each patient gets to see doctors, physical therapists, behavioural therapists, nurse practitioners. they work in a team and discuss on the possible solutions to treat the patients, which is awesome. okay, maybe the singapore system is also like that, i won't know until next time. if i even work in the hospital.

can enjoy my weekend here. =) have been waking up at like 6am everyday because got to get to work by 7.30am. super early. so i slp at like 11pm everyday, which is something i usually don't do. haha. maybe that's how work life will b in future. boo.
