The National Registration Identity Card is issued by the Singapore Immigration and Registration to all Singapore citizens and permanent residents. Each person is assigned a unique number. A typical NRIC number begins with either S or T, followed by seven digits d1.d2.d3.d4.d5.d6.d7.d.

The last letter d, is computed as follows:

1. add this up > d0 + 2 x d1 + 7 x d2 + 6 x d3 + 5 x d4 + 4 xd5 + 3 x d6 + 2x d7 where d0 = 0 if first letter is S, or 4 if first letter is T.

2. divide the above sum by 11, and obtain the remainder.3. check below against the remainder to get the letter!

0 -- J
1 -- Z
2 -- I
3 -- H
4 -- G
5 -- F
6 -- E
7 -- D
8 -- C
9 -- B
10 -- A
